K-MUNCHIES STORY

“편하게 먹을 수 있는 음식”
food that can be comfortably eaten
is how we describes Korean street food

Her recollection of nostalgic, savory, filling, approachable, and sometimes sweet bites was what she wanted to recreate with her sister. K-Munchies aims to be a replica of the street food from the memories of two Korean women, my mom (Kye Young Kim) and aunt (Soun Young Kim). They are restless and hardworking individuals, and even at a late age, they had the ambition of running their own business.

During the pandemic, they felt anxious and hopeless. With the clock ticking, they pondered what kind of business they could start and serendipitously got in contact with Monnani Twist, a popular Korean corn dog and Kkwaebaegi (aka Twist Donut) company. They thought the food was something they could learn to make, and it resonated with them. They opened on September 30, 2021. Never having worked in restaurants, they underestimated the workload and challenges they’d face. However, with persistence and grit, they were able to push through.

Despite numerous roadblocks, they were ready to throw in the towel. Restaurants, especially today, require more than just hard work and good food. The other aspects required for success were beyond them. It wasn’t until June 2024 that things started to change. With experienced outside help, K-Munchies began implementing systems, marketing, rebranding, and more.

It seems more hopeful now, but with businesses, you never really know what might happen. We are still creating our story, and we hope to continue serving Korean street food through the lens of our founders, just two Korean moms who make the food with love and passion.

Thank you, and we welcome you to be a part of our story!
